In its easiest phrases a virus is a disruptive pc code interval! A pc virus nearly at all times repeats itself and spreads by attaching itself to different files. Viruses will be made to host quite a few dangerous issues on any computer from disrupting recordsdata to crashing networks. It may possibly even be laying dormant, with out you realizing it is there and then attack when least expect it, like right in the midst of downloading a large file or typing an extended report.

It may well even be made to open at a sure date, sitting like a timebomb till it is time arrives. As you possibly can see it may be annoying at the very least. I don’t want go into all the different types of viruses right here because there are such a lot of and extra are being made on a regular basis in some dank basement by the Dark Lord. Nonetheless, since so many viruses got here from unknowingly opening e-mails I would like to mention some fundamentals right here:

By no means open e-mail attachments unless you recognize for positive who it’s from and that it’s safe. Some mail programs will even ask in the event you trust the attachment and when you’re positive this you need to do. Your pc software program may scan attachments for viruses. The danger is that when the attachment is opened the virus can connect itself to your onerous drive and injury files. Not solely that, it could search your saved e-mail addresses and send itself out to your folks, business companions and whoever is on the record, masking the message to seem like a reputable one from you. It’ll in all probability have an attachment too and when opened will infect different computers.

Many people like to obtain music, video, video games or different programs from different sites. If it’s a site you dealt with earlier than and belief it might be safe ok, however when you’re unsure you may at all times run a virus scan on the obtain earlier than installation. (You will need to check the anti-virus program that came together with your system on procedures). This security measure is important because some downloads might comprise virtues, spyware or adware – these last two can collect personal data, observe your shopping habits and spam your e-mail with undesirable ads. Some software websites will supply a readme file that reveals technical info on the obtain (if you like tech speak) in addition to contact info. The better sites that provide downloads will take a look at and scan all there software program applications before logging on with it. As a last resort you can do an internet search for critiques on that individual company to see if others acquired burned.

This may increasingly sound scary to some however the truth is in this world anybody who owns a pc will have to look over there shoulders for hidden assaults when working with online. That stated there are some things ought to do to prevent viruses from attacking your pc:

* Download the newest virus definition lists ( files that tell your pc what to scan for) that is used for your anti-virus program.

* Examine to see if your web service supplier has instruments to cease viruses before they will reach your mailbox.

* Always back-up your pc on CD-R disks or other media in case you loose some or all of your data.

* You possibly can scan software program for viruses earlier than putting in it. (See system handbook for process)

* Set your safety settings on the highest level.

* Examine your web browser and e-mail settings.

Doing these things at the very least each week will assist keep your computer updated on Virus safety and working safely.

Moreover, the intensity of the OLED changes with the beat of the music through sound sensors which give them an appearance such that they are dancing with the music. The key objective of the project was to make people rethink about the toilet which is always an afterthought issue, to make it an integrated fixture for outdoor parties to enhance the experience.

Poor Little Fish Basin : Your Fish Will Die If You Waste Water!

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

We all know the importance of saving water. But to some people, they think water is the most abundant natural resources that they could just take for granted. Unfortunately, most of the water on this earth is not directly in potable form. Saving water means saving the energy required to filter and purity water. “Poor Little Fish” basin design tries to persuade consumers to reduce the waste of water in an emotional way. Instead of forcing people to consume less which usually lead to uncomfortable experience, this basin will make people think differently about saving water by making consumption tangible.

Poor Little Fish Basin consists of traditional shaped fish bowl and a basin. While using the water, you will notice the water level in the bowl gradually falls, it will go back to the same level once the water stops. There are separated pipelines so the water that comes from the tap is pure and clean while the one in the bowl is not really changing.

JavaScripting

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

In the computer world, scripting languages are used to write simple scripts and allow for short command programs to run within a website. Javascript or JS is one such language, and it uses a series of numbers and symbols, which are written into the HTML code and allow for specific functions to be completed.

There are different types of JS that perform different functions. Different types of javascript are created when it is combined with other languages, such as when cascading style sheets are combined with javascript to form CSS javascript. The new combination is able to create bold effects when used in dynamic HTML active scripting. A second example of this is PHP javascript; when javascript is combined with a hypertext preprocessor script. The disadvantage of this type is that the javascript leaves no room for error, and will only be displayed correctly if all information is input correctly.

When an Internet user makes their way around the internet by clicking links and interacting with the information on different pages, menus written in JS are triggered. Websites utilize javascript to allow clickable links to open up new pages to show information. While this is a very common use for javascript, it is not the only one. Javascript is also used to make images and text appear when the user rolls their mouse over certain areas of web pages. Another action that javascript is used for is to initiate the activation of annoying popups.

Javascript can be disabled as part of a pop up killer program to block popups from opening in new windows. Disabling JS for this purpose is also often successful in preventing infected popups from accidentally being downloaded to the user’s computer. A new trend called click-jacking involves the use of javascript to cause unaware Internet users to download spyware and viruses to their computer. In this use of javascript, specific viruses are scripted into the HTML code of a pop up ad, and when the “x” button is pressed a virus is downloaded onto the user’s computer, in addition to closing the popup.

The Feature Packed Samsung Galaxy

Monday, September 6th, 2010

It is fairly obvious that most smartphone manufacturers have decided that the Android operating system is the future. Many of them place the OS on almost every device they release. Samsung is one of those companies who has taken Android technology and run with it. It hopes to maintain its status near the top of the market with the release of the Samsung Galaxy.

Just because customers want to carry all of the music, television, and personal data and management they can with them, they do not want to feel that the house is in their pocket. Samsung avoids this predicament by creating a slim, slender phone with the Samsung Galaxy. It measures 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs merely 119g. The Galaxy’s looks bears some resemblance to the iPhone 3GS with its black plastic and metal construction. Some would rather that the device distinguish itself from the pack a little more, but that is a small complaint for a phone that excels at what it does.

The Samsung Galaxy definitely distinguishes itself with a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, reaching speeds that most other smartphones cannot reach. There are 8GB of internal storage on the Samsung Galaxy that is roughly broken up into 6GB for media and 2GB for applications. If 8GB is simply not enough, the phone provides a microSD slot that accommodates cards of up to 32GB. Connectivity on the Galaxy is achieved via triband 900/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA. Rounding out the package is Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port, making a smartphone.

Although the Galaxy will surely be noted for its speed, it may earn even greater fame with its display. The eye grabber is definitely the gigantic, 4-inch capacitive touchscreen. Not only does it respond to touch very well, it provides 800 x 480p resolution and a Super AMOLED display. This is certainly an improvement over the standard AMOLED and LCD displays of the past. Samsung’s own Super AMOLED display also grants a much more pleasant viewing experience in direct sunlight.

The Samsung Galaxy utilizes Samsung’s own TouchWiz 3.0 user interface on top of the Android 2.1 operating system. This takes some getting used to for those who are familiar with the regular Android 2.1 interface. The TouchWiz does improve the notification bar, providing persistent shortcuts to toggle between vibrate and silent modes, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The Samsung Galaxy also addresses social networking with Social Hub, a function that combines Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter updates into a single stream.

Samsung is not new to producing top notch Android smartphones. They have proven that they are still leaders in the game with the Samsung Galaxy. For speed and functionality, it does not get much better. The phone is sure to please even the most critical users.

6 Tips to get more out of hard drive

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

http://media.shinyplastic.com/prodimg/fujitsu-250gb-hard-drive-mhz2.jpgLarge hard drives may be plentiful these days, but you can still face storage constraints. You could be coping with a small hard drive provided by your company. Or maybe you’re trying to squeeze some life out of an older hard drive that you aren’t ready to upgrade.

Those splurging on today’s fast solid state drives (SSDs) are pleased with their performance, but must constantly worry about running out of disk space, as SSDs have a lower capacity than traditional drives.

Bottom line: it’s still important to know how to recover some disk space, while retaining the applications that you need. Here’s a checklist of how to proceed.

What’s eating your drive?

http://freelancewebmarket.com/laptop-skins/laptop-skins.pngYou cannot begin to know how to recover hard-drive space until you can get an overview of which files and folders are occupying the most space.

Windows doesn’t give you any built-in tools for seeing, at a glance, just how large some folders are relative to others. Luckily, you can turn to the free FolderSize (http://sourceforge.net/projects/foldersize).

Install this open source program and your Windows Explorer file manager will be enhanced with a ‘folder size’ option in the file and folder display area. Just click on a drive, and right-click one of the column headings in the file pane (name, date modified, type, etc.).

There, in the right-click menu, you’ll see a folder size option. Select it and a new folder size column appears. In it, Windows will calculate and display the total size of the folders on your hard drive. Double-click a folder to drill one level down, activate folder size, and you’ll see the sizes of the subfolders. You can use this tool to quickly hone in on disk-eating files and folders.

Turn off hibernation feature

http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/1033/windowsxp/images/using/setup/hwprograms/67411-click-turn-off.gifWhen Windows is set up to hibernate, it creates a hidden file called Hiberfil.sys that’s large enough to hold the contents of installed memory. That means the file could be big — multiple gigabytes — and therefore consume extra disk space that you might need for other purposes.

To get rid of the file and free up disk space, you’ll need to turn the hibernation feature in Windows off. To do so in Vista or Windows 7, open the Start menu and type ‘power options.’ Select the Power Options entry.

In the resulting Select a Power Plan dialog box, click ‘Change plan settings’ for the currently selected power plan. In the next dialog box, click ‘Change advanced power settings.’

From the Power Option dialog box that appears, expand the Sleep entry, followed by the Hibernate entry, and then change the Hibernate setting to ‘Never.’ Click OK. Windows will delete the Hiberfil.sys, and you should notice considerably more disk space almost immediately.

Delete internet files

http://windows7themes.net/pics/delete-temporary-internet-files-via-internet-explorer.JPG

The temporary internet files folder can start to overflow with thousands of tiny files, easily sapping multiple gigabytes on your main drive.

It’s easiest to use the Windows Disk Cleanup utility, which is included with every copy of Windows, to delete these. The added benefit is that you can use the tool to delete other types of files as well.

Open the Start menu and type ‘disk cleanup.’ Click the first entry you see, which will start the Disk Cleanup wizard. Select the drive you wish to clean, and in the following dialog box, you’ll be able to select the types of files you want to remove. Temporary internet files will be among them.

Check Recycle Bin

http://techgenie.com/wp-content/uploads/Recycle-Bin.pngIf you find yourself deleting files constantly in an attempt to conserve drive space, but feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle, the problem could be that the Windows Recycle Bin is reserving too much space for keeping track of deleted files. Right-click the Recycle Bin and select Properties to remedy the situation.

In the Recycle Bin Properties dialog box, you can do two important things: determine the maximum amount of disk space per drive that is reserved for tracking deletions and establish whether to have the Recycle Bin active on a particular drive. Adjust or disable the Recycle Bin on a per-drive basis, and you should see and retain more usable disk space.

Segregate files

http://cybercoyote.org/images/file-exp.gifThere are plenty of other ways you can free up disk space. For instance, move your data files to another drive or partition. Segregating your files by type is a wise move anyway, since you’ll then be able to back up just certain types of files with ease. Also, you might want to consider employing Windows’ little-used disk and file compression feature. It’s available only at the drive level.

To use it, right-click your C drive (or another drive, if appropriate) and click Properties from the pop-up menu. On the General tab in the resulting Properties dialog box, select the option labeled ‘Compress this drive to save disk space.’

From that point forward, Windows will use compression techniques to reduce the amount of disk space that files require. The downside will be some extra processing overhead, but on fast machines this should not result in much of a performance hit.

Compress folders

http://www.vistax64.com/geek/gars/images/2/9/8/0/types/thumb_11993158720ZIP_File.pngYou can also use a free tool such as 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org) to compress individual files or folders. This approach to increasing disk space works best when you have a lot of highly compressible files on your drive.

Some types of files, such as those created by standard office applications, are good candidates for file-level compression. Other types such as jpg images, which are already compressed, will not benefit much from additional compression.
